  • A first-of-its-kind organic spices seed park will come up at two places in Gujarat with an aim to encourage capacity building and adoption of best practices in the production cumin and fennel seeds, the main crops in the region.
  • The Gujarat cM released the sanction letters to two farmer producer organizations (FPOs) for a NABARD-supported Organic Spices Seed Park for saunf (fennel seed) in the Banaskantha district & jeera (cumin seed) in Patan for promotion of the organic seed value chain of the spices.
  • On the occasion, GR Chintala, chairman of NABARD, informed that the two spices seeds parks will create a complete value chain & provide capacity building training for the farmers.
  • A total of Rs.23 lakh in grant assistance has been accorded to both the parks, which will have 50 farmers each. Once ready, the specialized institutions will collect seeds, which will be sent for testing on quality control.
  • The country has 8000 FPOs, with an average of about 300-400 farmers as members each.
  • DK Mishra, chief General Manager, Nabard, said that the seeds production is followed by grading, sorting, and packaging before being sent to the markets.

  • The Raipur-based Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) has developed a portable Soil testing kit, Which will help farmers determine the nutritional content of soil on their land, an official said on Tuesday.
  • Farmers will be able to check organic nutrients, acidic or alkaline nature of the soil, and other nutrients including nitrogen and potash using the kit, the official said.
  • The kit received a patent certificate from the Central government last week.
  • “The government has been issuing soil health cards to farmers after testing soil from their land, but for this, cultivation has to bring soil samples to the agriculture department’s labs, and the entire process takes four to five days,” IGKV public relations officer Sanjay Nayyar.
  • A team of scientists, led by voice-chancellor Dr. SK Patil, had applied for a patent for the kit in 2016 through the (ICAR), which the Centre approved last week, he said.
  • The kit, Which will cost Rs4000-4500, will comprise of chemical solution, powders, testing equipment, and an instruction guide, he said.
  • At least 25 samples can be tested with one kit, and in the future, farmers will have to but only chemical solutions which will cost around Rs. 2000, not the entire kit, he said.

  • Gnani, ai claims the bot is accessible on both feature phones and smartphones. It also comes with interactive response capability and will collect feedback through a standard questionnaire.
  • The Kisan Awaaz telephony bot is currently available in Hindi and can be accessed by dialing 080-6810058. Gnani.ai also intends to ake the bot available in other vernacular languages as well.
  • Speaking on the announcement, Ganesh Gopalan CEO, and Co-founder of Gnani.ai said in an official statement:”Launch of Kisan Awaaz Telephony bot is an important initiative in bridging the gap between technology and its adoption among masses.
  • He added: ” The Kisan Awaaz Bot has the potential to reach a larger audience in a short span of time and will help understand the general opinion and feedback about the Farmers Bill”.
