The Chunchuda assembly seat in Hooghly district of West Bengal has been held by the ruling party TMC for the last two elections. In the 2016 assembly elections, TMC’s Asit Majumdar (Tapan) defeated Dr. Pranab Kumar Ghosh of All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) by a margin of 29684 votes. Asit Mazumdar was elected MLA for the second time from here. He got a total of 118501 votes here and 88817 votes were cast in Pranab Kumar’s account.

The BJP was at number three here, whose candidate got more than 25 thousand votes here. During the 2016 assembly elections, the total number of voters on this seat was 294743. Of these, a total of 242397 voters had cast their votes. A total of 363 booths were built for polling in the entire assembly constituency and more than 82 percent voting was recorded here.
Votes were the first cast on this assembly seat in the year 1952, in which the Congress candidate won. In the subsequent elections, the Forward Bloc was dominated here for a long time. TMC won here for the first time in 2011.
