Is the 2000 rupee note closed? Government is not printing out of ATM

Now if you go to withdraw money from the ATM, do you get a note of 2000 rupees. Most of you will have no answer. You must be wondering if the 2000 note has been discontinued or is not going to happen. If there is any doubt about this in your mind, then let us tell you the complete detail, what is the matter. The government had made it clear that it is no longer printing 2000 rupee notes. In the month of March, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur had informed Lok Sabha that 2000 notes have not been printed in the last two years.

According to this statement by Anurag Singh Thakur, as of March 30, 2018, there were 3 billion 36 crores 20 lakh notes in circulation. Whereas till February 26, 2021, only 2 crores 49 crores 90 lakh 2000 rupee notes were in circulation. He also said that during 2019-20 and 2020-21, no order related to printing for banknotes of 2000 rupees was issued by the government. The notes of the ballot 2000 are no longer printed.

RBI also did not accept 2000 notes printed

Along with the government, the Reserve Bank of India also said in its annual report that since April 2019, not a single note of 2000 rupees has been printed. According to RBI data, a total of 354.2991 crore notes of 2000 rupees were printed during the financial year 2016-17. At the same time, only 11.1507 crore notes were printed in the financial year 2017-18, which later reduced to 4.6690 crores in the financial year 2018-19.

2000 notes also disappeared from ATM

According to a report in Business Today, the cassettes of notes of 2000 rupees have been removed from the note cassettes in the bank’s ATMs. The cassette of 2000 notes has been replaced with the cassette of 100 rupees and 200 rupees. This is the reason why most ATMs do not have 2000 rupee notes. Actually, the government decided not to print new notes of 2000 rupees so that hoarding can be stopped and black money can be curbed.

So what will stop 2000 note

This note of 2000 rupees was printed in the year 2016 itself. After demonetization, a new note of 2000 rupees was brought out after the 1000 rupee note was removed. However, the Minister of State for Finance also denied the reports in which it was said that the 2000 rupee note has been discontinued. The government denied these reports and made it clear that the government has no plans to discontinue the Rs 2,000 note at present.
